A: The laser removes the colored powder coating in the engraved areas, exposing the bright stainless steel underneath. The result is a sharp, two-tone, metallic-silver design that contrasts against the tumbler's color. Powder-coated tumblers are built with a stainless steel body coated in colored powder paint that has been heat-cured, and the laser vaporizes the coating only where your design lives, exposing the metal beneath. The design itself is not ink — it's the natural shine of the stainless steel, which is why every engraved area appears in the same silver tone regardless of the colors in your original artwork. On our 20-ounce skinny tumbler, your design will read as bright silver against blue, black, white, red, mint, or pink. Color artwork is automatically converted to black-and-white before engraving, so a clean black-and-white line drawing produces the sharpest result.
Q: Will the engraving fade, peel, or wash off? Is it dishwasher safe?
A: No. Laser engraving is permanent and cannot fade, peel, or wash off because the design is physically removed from the surface, not printed on top of it. We recommend hand-washing to protect the vacuum insulation, but the engraving itself is dishwasher-resistant. Unlike vinyl stickers or UV-printed graphics that sit on top of the surface and can peel in the dishwasher, laser engraving permanently removes the top coating, so the design lasts as long as the tumbler. The reason most premium drinkware brands recommend hand-washing isn't about the engraving — it's about extending the life of the double-wall vacuum seal that keeps drinks hot or cold. To keep your tumbler in top condition, hand wash with mild soap and a soft cloth, avoid abrasive scrubbers and harsh chemicals, and do not soak, microwave, or freeze it because these can damage the vacuum seal. If you do use the dishwasher, place the tumbler on the top rack only and use a gentle, lower-temperature cycle.
Q: What's the difference between laser engraving and UV printing or sublimation on a tumbler?
A: Laser engraving is permanent and produces a single-tone metallic look, while UV printing and sublimation produce full color but are less durable. Choose engraving for a premium feel and long-term durability, and choose printing when you need photo-quality color or gradients. Engraving physically alters the surface, so the design becomes part of the tumbler itself and will not fade, peel, or scratch. The trade-off is that everything appears in the same silver tone, since engraving cannot reproduce color. UV printing and sublimation lay ink or dye on top of the surface, which allows full color and photo-quality images, but printed designs can fade, scratch, or wear over time, especially with frequent washing. Engraving is the better choice for logos, monograms, line art, and gifts that need to last for years, while printing is the better choice for photographs, gradients, and multi-color designs. Premium brands like YETI and Stanley use laser engraving for this same reason — it preserves the high-end look indefinitely.
Q: What file format should I upload, and can I send a photo or color logo?
A: Upload your design directly through the product page. Vector files such as SVG, AI, EPS, and PDF produce the sharpest results, but high-resolution PNG and JPG files also work. Color designs are accepted and automatically converted to black-and-white for engraving. For optimal engraving quality, vector formats are preferred, followed by high-resolution PNG or JPG, and then standard photos. A resolution of 300 DPI is ideal, which equates to roughly 2400x3000 pixels for an 8"x10" engrave. Submit black-and-white line art whenever possible because it engraves exactly as drawn — color images are converted to grayscale and then to a single-tone engraving, which can soften fine detail. Files under 150 DPI may be AI-upscaled and require proof approval before engraving. Designs that engrave beautifully include single-color logos and monograms, hand-drawn signatures, names and dates, black-and-white illustrations, and high-contrast silhouettes such as pets, mountains, or skylines. Designs that tend to be trickier include photographs with heavy midtone gray, soft gradients and watercolor effects, very small text under 8pt, and designs that rely on color to convey meaning.
Q: How long does it take to receive a custom-engraved tumbler, and how does shipping work?
A: Production takes 3 to 5 business days, then your tumbler ships with tracking. Shipping is free on orders over $99, $7.50 on orders under $50, and $10 on orders between $50 and $99. Express 2-Day shipping is available for an additional $40 on orders between $50 and $300. Each tumbler is engraved-to-order, so production begins after you upload your design and complete checkout. Once your tumbler ships, you will receive a tracking number, and each tumbler arrives individually boxed, which makes it gift-ready straight out of the package. For time-sensitive gifts such as birthdays, weddings, or corporate events, we recommend ordering at least 7 to 10 business days in advance for standard shipping, or using the Express 2-Day option if your event is sooner.

Our Stretcher bars are made from solid pine wood. Consistent quality and kiln dried lumber assures you that the bars will fit nicely together and will be straight. This is the wood of choice for most museum quality stretcher bars due to its stability, low resin, and lignin content. The wood is kiln-dried to a moisture content below 8% which will ensure that there will be no warp or shrinkage after the canvas is applied to the stretcher frame.
We use a 2"x2" Frame for larger pieces over 20" per side, and 1.5"x1.5" for frames below 20" per side.
